Description: Building Keyboarding Skills for Computers is an essential skill required to key faster and more accurately every Picture of Work Areatime you use a computer.

The “hunt and peck” system is not fun and besides it makes for long hours of sitting, hunting, pecking, hunched over just to create a report for class or the workplace. Keyboarding Skills for Computers consist of ten skill builder exercises to get your best WAM and EAM - that is Words A Minute speed up and your Errors A Minute down like golf!

A Timed Writing Progress Chart provides immediate feedback on your progress and a Techniques Checklist allows you to spot the areas needing improvement. With the right attitude, the right position, and keyboarding skills you will improve your touch system and increase your enjoyment while using the computer.

Unit Objectives: Demonstrate the right attitude, ready position, and keyboarding skills to key faster and more accurately using the touch system. Demonstrate keyboarding speed and accuracy at a minimum of 35 words per minute with errors corrected

Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice. Touch Typing Programs -   In the computer labs we use Ultrakey to practice, build, and test your keyboarding skills. But if your're at home try these Online Free Touch Typing Programs:

  • Touch Typing Program This is a popular touch type learning program that offer the entire typings lessons online.
  • Qwerty typing lessons - By Power Typing ** CS1 CHOICE ** I used this one more then any other aside from UtraKey.
  • Power Typing - This is another typing website offering free online typing courses for Qwerty or Dvorak keyboard layouts. You can take an online typing test, play typing games or just practice typing to improve your speed and accuracy. Requires Macromedia Flash plug-in.
  • TypeFaster - A free downloadable typing tutor with a 3D game that is even accessible for blind typists. The software supports French, German, Portuguese, US-Dvorak, US-English, Hebrew, Numeric-keypad and Spanish. CS1 Labs have TypeFaster for students daily use.
