Common Keyboard Shortcuts

Shortcut Keys	Function
+BREAK	Display or hide the Start menu. Display the System Properties dialog box.
+D	Minimizes all Windows and shows the Desktop
+E	Open Windows Explorer (File Manager)
+F	Search for a file or folder.
+F+CTRL	Search for computers.
+F1	Display Windows 2000 Help.
+L	Locks the desktop
+M +R +TAB +U	Minimize or restore all windows. Open the Run dialog box. Switch between open items. Open Utility Manager
ALT+- (ALT+hyphen)	Displays the Multiple Document Interface (MDI) child window's System menu.
ALT+ENTER ALT+ESC	View properties for the selected item. Cycle through items in the order they were opened.
ALT+F4 ALT+SPACEBAR	Close the active item, or quit the active program. Display the System menu for the active window.
ALT+TAB ALT+[Underlined letter] in a menu name	Switch between open items. Display the corresponding menu.
CTRL+A CTRL+X	Select all Cut
CTRL+B	Bold
CTRL+C	Copy
CTRL+I	Italics
