MICROSOFT POWERPOINT REVIEW

 

 

Objective: Upon completion of the Microsoft PowerPoint block of instruction, you should be able to:

 

1.  Identify the PowerPoint screen

            a.  Bars – title, menu, standard tools, formatting, views, draw, status

            b.  Views- slide sorter view, normal view, outline view, slide view, slide show

 

2.  Add/delete and modify the PowerPoint layout

a.   Auto Layout Options - For example: title, bullet, bullet and picture, chart

b.  Insert or duplicate slides

            c.   Master Slide

d.      Background  - Common objects for all slides go on the background.

e.       Apply Design Templates

 

3. Add/delete and modify PowerPoint objects

a.       Objects – Word art, text, pictures, graphics, audio clips, shapes, lines

 

4.  Use draw features from the draw toolbar to arrange objects

a.       Order  - For example, send to the back or Bring to the front

b.      Align  - Top/bottom/left/right/center/middle – 2 or more objects

c.       Group/Ungroup  - Working with two or more objects

d.      Rotate/Flip

e.       Text Wrapping

 

4.  Format text and objects

a.   Text font, color, size, type, effect

b.      Objects- color fill, line color, line style, shadow, 3D

c.       Word Art

d.      Use spell checker - F7

           

5.  Apply effects

a.       Slide transitions

b.      Custom animation

c.       Action Settings

d.      Create hyperlinks

 

6.  Setup slide show

a.       Timing – Options: Apply to all, some, none

b.      Apply transitions & timing in slide sorter view

c.       Select method to advance slides

b.      Rearrange slides in slide sorter view

c.       Use Rehearse Timing feature

 

 

 

7.  Setup for printing

a.       Select what to print  - Slides, notes, handouts

·        Print what? Use handouts & less slides per page if it’s important it be read by your viewers

·        For handouts the options are: 2, 3, 4, 6, 9 Slides Per Page

b.      Select color options – Pure Black & White, grayscale, or the default, which is color that is if your printer is color.

 

8. Save the presentation

a.       Save As - Used to save presentation by different name to the hard drive.

b.      Select type of format to save the file

·        PPT – default file name extension

·        PPS –Packed to show without the MS PowerPoint program

·        POT – PowerPoint Template

·        HTML – Not ideal for serious HTML design and development but it will convert graphic elements to readable format by browsers.

·        GIF – 256 colors or less, ideal for capturing custom graphics using fill effects such as variants

·        JPG – photo quality, ideal for capturing dazzled photos

·        BMP – Ideal for creating wallpapers
