Educational Leadership

Welcome to Hector Salas' School Improvement through Educational Leadership.

This online portfolio represents my practicum in Educational Leadership, as well as my professional expertise. Here, I  illustrate my unique personal and professional growth, abilities, skills and professional objectives.  I have compiled this portfolio during my continuous study of Educational Leadership (L5) selecting artifacts, images, and documents from courses and experiences that best represent my individuality and competencies for leadership. I will make every effort to emphasize how my contributions will help school improvement.

    1. Focusing on Concepts of Leadership
    2. Strategic Planning
    3. Management
    4. Continuous Quality Improvement

One of my goals, and of the practicum in Leadership, is to observe organizational, administrative planning, and leadership phenomena (what goes on in schools), and systematically study these observations, interpret them and write reflections for the purpose of developing a personal framework to guide actions as a leader. This will also provide me opportunities to actual  "hands-on" assignments to enhance my skills, and better prepare me for an Educational Leadership role.

May 2008 - Current Status/Objective: I am interested in serving in an Educational Leadership position with an organization that is committed to promoting the success of all students.

Looking for an educational leader? One with a rare combination of business savvy, technology expertise, educational leadership experience, and fluent in Spanish?

Since my arrival at Gainesville, Georgia in 2000, aside from teaching I have been active assisting the Principals with a variety of duties and serving where needed most in helping to run the organization. I have a lot to offer beginning with my academic credentials and experience, a Master of Business Administration degree, certification in educational leadership, which has prepared me to serve in a leadership role, and a deep understanding of our school culture.

What I bring to the table is eight years of experience as an educator and experience assisting school leadership in various administrative functions. For example, resource management detailed in the matrix, staff development, instructional leadership, and student behavior management, including engaging in school-wide problem solving activities. All this adds up to a great deal of knowledge of an educational  infrastructure, which makes me ready and exited about serving as an Educational Leader utilizing my experience and expertise to further a school's vision and goals.

In addition, I served in the military for twenty years, nearly half that time in various educational leadership positions dedicated to staff development, school improvement, curriculum development, and managing projects engaging technology to support student learning. My success as a leader has stemmed from my strong commitment to excellence, sense of professionalism, and working well with others.

I am prepared to bring quality leadership and lead in promoting the success of all students and positive change in an organization. Aligned with the school vision, I see myself utilizing my expertise in planning for improvement, evaluating processes, performances and procedures, specializing in identifying and analyzing problems, designing appropriate methods for improvement, and communicating strategies that work for teaching and learning.

You won’t find anyone willing to work harder, lead by example, work extremely well with people, and be an effective leader with good morals and values, which can be as important as experience.

Sincerely,

Hector Salas
