Prior
to joining Riverside Military Academy, Gainesville Georgia, in 2000, as a
computer science teacher, academic technology advisor and solution provider,
Hector Salas served as Superintendent and Academic Instructor at Air University, Office of Academic
Support, Maxwell AFB, Alabama. His Technology Department was responsible for
research, development and implementation of existing and new technologies
appropriate for educational integration of technology. Mr. Salas was also
responsible for the design, development, implementation and networking of a
model multimedia center used to provide instructor training in multimedia, Web
design and development, interactive courseware (CD-ROM), various operating
systems administration and business application skills development. Since 1995,
Mr. Salas has prepared instructors to teach, and integrate technology in the
classroom to enhance student learning. Mr. Salas is also a certified career and
technical educator in Business and Information Technology.
Mr. Salas' educational accomplishments includes an Occupational Instructor
Certificate and an Associate Degree in Instructional Technology from the
Community College of the Air Force, a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration
from Louisiana Tech University, graduating cum laude, and a Master of Business
Administration (MBA) degree from Troy State University. Mr. Salas is also a
Certified Technical Trainer with a rating of Master Instructor. Mr. Salas
completed teacher certification coursework, maintaining a 4.0 GPA, and was
awarded the Business and Information Technology teacher certification for the
state of Georgia, at the University of Georgia at Athens (UGA) through the
“Business to Teaching” initiative in Occupational Studies. In addition, he has
been invited to join the UGA Doctoral program, Educational Administration and
Policy, which is his goal now that his
coursework in Educational Leadership (L-5 certification) is complete.
Mr. Salas has extensive adult education and course development experience,
having served for several years as an Instructional Technology Superintendent
and Training Advisor for the Air Education and Training Command (AETC). As
development program manager he was responsible for the development of several
career related courses for the United States Air Force including: the Combat
Ammunition System Administration Course, Cargo Movement Operation System, and
UNIX Systems Administrator Courses, including Oracle Database Administrator
course. While instructing in the Air Education and Training Command Mr. Salas
was awarded the rating of Master Instructor (1993). He teamed with the Academic
Instructor School faculty in August 1994, originally as a consultant, to help
integrate technology. In 1996, Mr. Salas distinguished himself by outstanding
achievement while on a special project involving Multimedia Interactive
Courseware Development for the Air Force Senior NCO Academy, Multimedia Course
Five. He authored portions of the course, tested, debugged and advised on the
design, development, and revision of the complex course development standards.
In 1996, he became U.S. Air Force most sought after member, helping hundreds of
agencies in educational technology. In 1998, he was awarded the prestigious
honor of Professor of Emeritus.
His military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal; the Air Force
Commendation Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters; and the Air Force Achievement
Medal.
